Job Description:

Purpose

The Trading Analyst supports all activities of Shell Energy Japan’s trading desk. He or she performs fundamental analysis, trade execution, nominations and manages commodity operations up to settlement. As the ‘go-to’ person for the SEJ Senior Structurer and Trader, the Trading Analyst is involved in an interesting combination of set-up work and regional coordination of Shell experts, as well as directly exposed to the trading on exchanges, bi-laterally with customers and the end-to-end delivery of value for Shell.

Accountabilities

1. Provide analytical support to the trading team, including market analysis, price forecasting, and risk assessment.

2. Execution of short-term trading, managing of end-to-end trading operations as an operation focal.

3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of energy markets, regulations, and trends.

4. Collaborate with other teams, such as finance, operations, and logistics, to ensure smooth execution of trading activities.

5. Prepare and present reports on trading activities and performance to senior management. 6. Leveraging Shell Energy global best practices into SEJ

Skills & Requirements

REQUIRED QUALITIES

• Fluency in Japanese and English.
• Proof of excellent quantitative skills.
• Understanding of the structure of the Japanese energy market
• Professional experience in the commodity trading / utility industry
• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex data, and distil insight succinctly.
• Good team player with demonstrated ability to progress work collaboratively as well as individually.
• Independence, self-starting attitude, strong work ethos and high follow-up and delivery reliability. Resilience and balanced self-confidence.

BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s Degree in a field like economics, econometrics, mathematics, physics, finance, or business.
• Work experience in commodity trading, research or consulting in Japan.
• Demonstrated success working in international and multi-functional teams.
• Understanding of commodity risk management products
• Interest in the detailed commodity business end-to-end value chain
• Working in Excel and program writing in VBA
• Experience using statistical software and data analysis tools (R, Python, Matlab, SQL, etc)

SHELL ENERGY ASIA (SEA)

SEA has been established in May 2017. It comprises Shell Energy China, Shell Energy Singapore, Shell Energy India, and Shell Energy Japan. In addition to the downstream optimization of LNG, sales of truck-loaded LNG and natural gas, SEA is commencing the marketing and trading of electricity and renewable electricity certificates in liberalizing Asian markets. SEA’s New Markets team is responsible for the identification, prioritization and realization of new country entries and downstream sales of LNG. Country representative offices in Japan, South Korea and Vietnam support business development activities and manage Shell Energy’s and RDS’ interfaces with in-country key stakeholders.

SEA staff maintain close links with other Shell Energy divisions and Shell Integrated Gas and New Energies.
