What is This Position?
The Terminal Operator –Shellburn is part of a team of 13 people at the site with the objective of delivering safe and reliable operations to serve Shell’s fuel customers in the local market, being a supply point for other Shell terminals, and product export. Adherence to both Shell and Regulatory Compliance, respecting Shell’s Code of Conduct, and maintaining our “License to Operate” is essential. The role is crucial in maintaining day-to-day operations and a key interface with Contractors and Carriers, overseeing product handling (rail, marine, pipeline, truck), maintenance and project activities.
Where Do You Fit In?
The Shellburn Terminal receives refined products (gasoline, distillate and biofuels) via rail car and marine and ships products via pipeline, marine and truck.
The Shellburn Terminal has 3 staff employees, 10 hourly terminal operators
What is the Role?
Terminal Operators are responsible for all operational duties related to the receipt, storage, and distribution of its products.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintaining compliance with company procedures and government regulations related to HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental) and various agency permits
Handling, receiving, transferring, shipping, and storing petroleum products via pipeline, rail car, marine and truck
Physical offloading of railcars
Providing general maintenance, surveillance checks and housekeeping in support of terminal assets to ensure a safe, secure, and environmentally sound operation
Supervision and coordination of contractors as well as issuing of Permits to Work
Initiate emergency response actions for people and processes
Ability to solve loading rack malfunctions and other terminal systems
Conducting quality assurance sampling and testing of products
Operation of the waste water treatment plant
Accountable for compliance with company and regulatory procedures in the execution of the job such as:
Compliance with the HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental) and Control Framework
Compliance with the Global Terminal Operations Manual
Compliance with the Distribution Measurement Manual
The terminal is operated 24/7, shift work and overtime is required.
The Shellburn Terminal Operator is a member of the UNIFOR Union, Local 114.
What We Need from You?
Must have a minimum of a high school diploma
Computer skills, Excel, word, email, texting
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Willing to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodation
Physically capable of unloading railcars, including unbolting manways, manipulation and connection of hose under the rail car.
Willing to climb ladders, walk up and down steps, and work at heights with or without accommodation
Willing to work a rotating shift work schedule
Comfortable working alone outside of normal business hours and/or with minimal supervision
Willing to work overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends
Willing to be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies
Willing to support and comply with the company’s safety policies and initiatives
