What’s the role?
Staff Site Supervisors are responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team offshore to safely deliver world class wells. During well execution activities, the Site Supervisor drives inclusion and engagement and leads with a project management approach to deliver through others and achieve exceptional outcomes. They lead the operationalization of the well programme and integrate worksite disciplines to ensure compliance with company procedures and local regulations.
This position is intended to develop individuals aspiring to become long term Wells supervisors. This will involve working under the guidance of more experienced Site Supervisors to build required competences and will require applicants to complete the Shell Round 1 and Round 2 certification programmes. These programs involve significant training and development. This development role will complement the existing offshore model of a Day Supervisor and Night Supervisor.
Staff Site Supervisors are wellsite based (rotational) and report to an onshore Well Operations Team Lead. They work alongside other Supervisors and Engineers and must be able to manage shared accountabilities, which include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervising a variety of operational activities including drilling, completions, interventions and Plug & Abandon
- Develop Wellsite operational plans to execute activities as per programme. Communicating these plans effectively to contractors and service providers.
- Understanding and monitoring operational parameters and intervening to correct as required.
- Quality control and assurance at the wellsite
- Formation Integrity Tests / Leak-off Tests
- Inflow and pressure tests
- Running casing/liners/tubing. Including casing, liner and completion tallies, space-outs, and relevant data entry in reporting system.
- Cementing operations including calculations and relevant data entry in reporting system
- Modelling for torque, drag, surge and swab, etc. using Wellplan in cooperation with Shell WellVantage
- Directional plan and anti-collision monitoring using Compass
- Stuck-pipe and jarring calculations including string stretch in cooperation with service providers and WellVantage
- Well control kick-sheet preparation and data gathering in cooperation with relevant parties.
- Ownership of the Well Status Diagram (WSD) in EDM-Profile
- Cost, time, performance improvement tracking, identification and implementation at the Wellsite
Shell execute operations across the Well lifecycle and utilize various rig and work unit types; offshore wellsite locations are remote, in harsh weather conditions and the activities are technically complex. The Site Supervisors are managed as a pool and will be exposed across this range of activities.
Site Supervisors visibly champion HSSE improvement programmes and implement the safety management system. They are involved in Management of Change, Audit, Personal and Process Safety, Incident Management and Emergency Response.
Site Supervisors are responsible for accurate time, cost, and Non-Productive Time reporting during operations. They represent Shell as front-line leaders to drive safe and efficient performance and lead continuous improvement processes including identifying, owning, and implementing opportunities. Supervisors provide quality feedback to Operational and Engineering Teams and contribute to Non-Productive Time investigations and After-Action Reviews to incorporate lessons learned into performance, procedural & contractual improvements.
Site Supervisors integrate with and deliver through multiple internal and external stakeholders. This includes Well Operations, Engineering, Real Time Operations Centers, other disciplines (e.g. subsurface, production), Contractors and Service Companies. They supervise across a range of operational activities including drilling, completions, interventions, and abandonment activities. This includes preparing work instructions, engineering calculations and modelling, coordinating logistical planning, ensuring appropriate QA/QC, leading operational preparations, report writing and communicating to the wider onshore team. Supervisors prepare risk mitigation and contingency measures including Well Control preparedness, adverse weather strategies and simultaneous activities.
Site Supervisor lead in a diverse, multi-cultural environment and build, develop and inspire a team to deliver at their best; they demonstrate curiosity, enthusiasm and humility and seek out diversity in thought and opinions from others. Site Supervisors coach others and must role model Shell’s Core Values in respect to General Business Principles, Ethics & Compliance, Code of Conduct and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
This will involve working under the guidance of more experienced Site Supervisors to build required competences and will require applicants to complete the Shell Round 1 and Round 2 certification programmes, after which they will move to an independent Wells Supervisor position.
