Position Purpose
The Shell Polymers Monaca is looking for a Sr. Process Safety Engineer that will support the transition from startup and ramp up to run-and-maintain on Shell's largest recent greenfield project. This vibrant team of self-starters is seeking a new team member that will bring a data-driven approach to bear on the process safety challenges every day.
As part of the Process Safety team, you will work onto protect the technical, operations, and design integrity of the site. You will provide facilitation, data, tools, and structure for risk-based decision making as well as mentoring individuals to raise the site's skill level in risk management. This Senior Process Safety Engineer position will be a cornerstone of that team and is expected to have competencies including Major Hazard Management, Facility Siting, Consequence Modelling, Risk Assessment and Management, Hazard and Effect Management, Safeguarding and Relief Systems, and Management of Change.
The plant itself, Shell Polymers Monaca, sits on 386 acres along the Ohio River near Monaca, PA. The plant can produce 3.5 billion pounds of polyethylene pellets annually, which are used by Shell’s customers to create products that we see and use every day including – common household goods; consumer and food packaging; as well as industrial and utility products.
Accountabilities:
Support compliance with Process Safety Management regulations
Develop and manage internal process safety assurance programs
Validate the Site Hazard and Effects Management Process (HEMP) program
Support the Site Management of Change program, including the successful execution of change management
Facilitate Site PHA studies, Bowties, HEMP LOPA analysis, and other risk studies
Provide Process Safety training to the site
Policy Custodianship for Management of Change (MOC) Policy and Pre-startup Safety Review (PSSR0 / Statement of Fitness (SoF) Policy
Aid MOC coordinator in implementation and training of users in SPM Management of Change
Maintain database of site personnel in Cintellate MOC Tool
Provide specific guidance and training to site personnel on Process Safety Fundamentals
Provide support as needed to Causal Learning and Learning from Incidents
Educate the site’s personnel on process safety and barrier thinking
Provide RAM Ranking support for Sphera incident entry
Develop ALARP demonstrations for technical/process safety risks and developing HSE cases
Working Conditions: Typical schedule is 9 days/80 hours (Biweekly Friday off). There is work hour and location flexibility, but the normal expectation is to be available on site.
Requirements
Must have legal authorization to work in the USA on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Minimum 5 years of relevant Process Safety experience
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Technical Safety degree preferred
The base salary range for this position is $122,000.00 - $182,000.00 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives.
