Position Purpose

Shell Americas Social Performance (SP)Regional team is seeking an SP Advisor to support our colleagues in countries and assets through offering deep social impact management expertise.  The team is part of the SP Center of Excellence maintaining oversight of current and emerging SP risks and opportunities, ensures that Shell has competent staff to deal with these and enables communication about our performance in this area, both internally and externally. 

As the SP Advisor, you will support SP delivery by inspiring people and unlocking leadership such that all staff are able to appropriately identify and manage social risks, impacts and opportunities in support of business outcomes and societal license to operate. Accountabilities:

  • SP Authority coverage (assurance) and SP delivery support (social risk and impact management, including proposing mitigation measures and opportunity realizations for impacts).

  • Contribute to CR in country and business knowledge of critical risk areas (Indigenous Peoples, Cultural Heritage, Resettlement), related strategies/processes, and principal technical experts within Shell. Act as Indigenous Peoples focal point for the US.

  • Advise/inform/support SP risk management requirements and mitigations. Facilitate SP integration into business, functional and reputation plans.

  • SP SME for business processes such as Opportunity Realization (ORS) and Hazards & Effects Management Process (HEMP), Audits, VARs and Social Impact Assessment.

  • Facilitate with country CR colleagues the Joint Assessment Review (assurance) to ensure business and functional inputs are represented and actively work towards achieving improvements where required.

  • Work with CR colleagues to use tools for asset/site/project (specific screening tools for early screening of risk potential).

  • Competence development of the business and CR in country SP skill pool, including tailoring and delivery of formal training.

  • Support improvement of SP networks in the Americas.

  • Work with CR colleagues to gather and share good practices, stories, etc. from across the region.

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in USA on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience working and partnering with business colleagues and integrating SP into business decisions.

  • Advanced degree in environment or social sciences preferred.

  • Extensive experience with SP in operations and projects and business processes such as Opportunity Realization (ORS) and Hazards & Effects Management Process (HEMP) with deep experience in opportunity / project delivery, working in operational settings supporting and influencing business decisions and Social Impact Assessment.

  • Demonstrable experience across the spectrum of SP special risk areas, (e.g. local content, resettlement, cultural heritage), with particular focus on indigenous peoples.

  • Knowledge of social justice issues, environmental issues (environmental justice), and the energy transformation (commitments and future requirements), among others.

  • Commercial mindset and good knowledge of the business drivers and threats relevant to Shell’s US businesses.

  • Some travel to project and asset sites to provide support, assurance, etc. as needed.

The base salary range for this position is $122,000.00 - $182,000.00 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay.
