Shearwater is a gas and condensate production platform in the Central North Sea operating multiple subsea tie-backs and High Pressure, High Temperature platform wells. Shearwater contributes significant value to the Shell UK business and is strategically important for the ongoing success of the company in the Central North Sea.
The successful candidate will have experience in the Operations/Production and Maintenance Technician role specifically as an Instrument Technician to Technical Custodian Instruments (TCI) standard.

The O&M Technician role drives greater ownership and execution of maintenance delivered by Shell staff by developing flexible technicians who have the skill set to work effectively in either the operations or maintenance teams.
- Once appointed TCI you would be expected to work in the maintenance and production team looking after all technical aspects of the safeguarding and Process Control Domain controls systems onboard:
- Instrumented Protective Systems
- Fire and Gas Systems
- Distributed Control Systems
- Programmable Logic Controllers
- The Technical Custodian is to act as the single discipline focal point offshore and provide hands-on expertise to safeguard operational and design integrity and commercial effectiveness by ensuring the maintenance of critical instrument systems and equipment. With support from the onshore PACO team, the Technical Custodian is responsible for controlling access to critical systems and assuring that controls are enforced in relation to the management of change process
- The Technical Custodian must also demonstrate a high degree of in-depth system knowledge and diagnostic ability, together with a mature and authoritative nature.
- Execute maintenance activity alongside Shell and contract technicians in line with the Corrective and Preventive maintenance schedules
- Create and apply isolations to Instrument equipment using P-Vision
- Carry out duties under the permit to work system both as permit requestor (responsible for the raising/creation of permits) and permit holder (responsible person carrying out work under a permit)
- Sound fault finding and diagnosis skills often in challenging situations
- Support Turnaround/ Pitstop preparation and execution.
- Carry out duties as part of the platform’s emergency response team. Training will be provided where required
Position is based offshore in the central North Sea on 2 weeks offshore and 3 weeks onshore field break rota.
What we need from you
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Significant years within the Offshore or Petrochemical industry (or equivalent) with a suitable technical qualification, HNC/D, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
- TUV Functional Safety Technician/Engineer qualification or equivalent (or the motivation and ability to gain this accreditation)
- Previous experience in a similar role maintaining control and safeguarding systems.
- Experience of maintenance on Honeywell DCS systems, Yokogawa ESD systems, Sensia ICS SFD F&G systems beneficial
- Experience maintaining all aspects of 3rd party control systems such as Turbine Control packages, Subsea Master Control stations and local package PLC controls systems
- Experience of operating in sensitive PCD (Process Control Domain) environments
- Experience of Alarm Management and rationalisation
- Communication and collaboration skills
- Good understanding of the end-to-end maintenance processes with the ability to apply this to effectively utilising SAP (Shell’s maintenance management system) and P-Vision (Shell’s Safe System of Work tool)
- Ability to read and interrupt Process and Instruments Diagrams, wiring and loop drawings, Cause and Effect drawings along with equipment and vendor documentation
