Where you fit
As the Senior Indirect Tax Advisor in Malaysia, you will play a key role in all Indirect Tax matters for the Shell Malaysia business. This includes the provision of indirect tax advice, shaping, structuring and support for all Shell business/ functions/ projects operating in Malaysia to ensure fiscal compliance, effective risk management and in support of business objectives.
What’s the role?
Provision of pro-active, value-added indirect tax advice and planning for Shell in Malaysia as well as key projects across the Asia-Pac region, focusing efforts in areas of highest complexity, risk and added value.
Optimisation of indirect tax related cash-flows and maximise indirect tax added value for Shell business/functions operating in Malaysia.
Supporting the relevant Trade Controls Managers by securing customs duty SME input as required.
Represent Shell externally with the Malaysian government, industry and professional organisations concerning indirect tax matters, taking the leading role in shaping and representation efforts on specific subjects.
Manage own resources to achieve the targeted balance between dedication to assigned business/function/process and allocation to other areas/projects. All other activities as required
Indirect taxes in this context covers VAT/GST, sales and services taxes, excise duties, customs duties and environmental taxes.
Role requirement:
Professional tax qualifications (Law or Accounting degree)
Extensive experience in similar tax roles, in Big 4 or mid-tier firm with large multinational clients and/or in-house within a large multinational corporate tax environment
Up-to-date knowledge of Malaysian sales and services tax along with recent customs experience including practical application
Strong communication skills in particular the ability to communicate complex tax concepts in simple and commercially useful terms
Proven ability to work independently whilst demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills
