The Shell Global Trading and Supply (T&S) business is one of the largest energy trading operations in the world with key hubs in Dubai, Houston/Santiago, London/Rotterdam, Singapore and Brisbane trading in crude oil, natural gas, LNG, electrical power, refined products, chemical feedstocks and environmental products.
This combined with integrated network of supply and distribution activities and industry-leading shipping and maritime capability adds value for Shell across its Upstream and Downstream businesses.
Energy Risk and Accounting (ERA) team comprises of Market Risk Operations and Trading Settlements and Accounting (TSA). The TSA team plays an important role in the Life of a Deal (LoaD) covering processes such as pre-settlements & settlements for buy/sell transactions, period-end close including accruals & Inter Group matching/reconciliations, inventory reconciliation/valuation, M2M accounting, Trade book to financial reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, Group disclosures, CI, controls/SOX compliance and audit activities.
ERA process currently relies on multiple ETRM & SAP systems (with some connected applications) to perform their scope of work cited above. There are strategic programs initiated to implement (i.e., replacing current ETRMs with) the latest version of ENDUR as standard ETRM, bring in standard data platforms/connected applications and market centric tools where needed to simplify our complex PDS (process, data and system) landscape.
This present role is part of TSA PO team which supports Shell Energy Trading involving Gas & Power, EPTB, Global LNG and ETD businesses. The Process Expert for Global LNG and ETD business will be accountable for process design of settlements and accounting processes for new business transactions / deal executions, support transformation projects, assess the current design, understand requirements/pain areas and design the best-in-class future state design.
The role is expected to be part of a dynamic Process Owner’s organization which supports multiple business areas – thus the candidate is expected to support primary businesses of LNG and ETD while also support other businesses like Gas, Power, EPT in SET while also working on relevant assignments of ETRM / ERP transformation projects with an integrated scope of collaborating and collating support from across FO functions.
This role will focus on supporting and steering TSA activities of the following areas:
- Global LNG Business
Design processes for settlements and accounting for new purchase and sales deals of both LNG and DLNG businesses, complex deals involving Liquified BioMethane (LBM), BioLNG, carbon compensated LNG cargoes, etc.
Design processes for tradebook-to-financial reconciliation and other accounting processes including applicable controls set-up of LNG and DLNG
Support implementation mark-to-market financial reporting of physical commodity contract portfolio of SLMT entities from process design perspective
Support system transformation initiatives involving upgrade of ENDUR, migration of SAP P80, set up of data platforms / hubs
Run continuous improvement initiatives to ensure efficient deployment of efforts for operations team
- Global ETD Business
Understanding of derivative / paper transactions, hedging principles and business rationale for derivative transactions is imperative to design processes for settlements and accounting
Understanding of derivative instruments, structuring options, exchange operations and OTC counterparty operations
Design processes for Margin Call Settlements, Price Indications (M2M Variance analysis), Trade Reconciliations
Support onboarding new business in OTC / ETD space including preparation of Process Maps, WI, FMEA, etc.
Design processes for tradebook-to-financial reconciliation and other accounting processes including applicable controls set-up of ETD transactions
Support system transformation initiatives including ETRM transformation programs like ADA, ASPIRE and ERP migration of SAP P80, P81, GSAP to S4Hana
This role will also play a natural integrator role for wider FO scope in new deal set-up as well as system transformation projects.
The Energy Trading business acquire companies. This role will be required to support from FO perspective in integration programs of such acquired entities to align with PDS landscape of Shell T&S. Most of these projects are expected to be multi-year journey, the expectation for the role holder is to support design, lead and deliver execution.
In summary, the role provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to quickly gain deep knowledge/experience of a fast moving/ exciting Trading business of LNG and Exchange Traded Derivatives and an opportunity to work amongst focals handling other Energy businesses like Gas & Power, EPTB and RES.
This role will provide experience in processes/data/systems, automation/digital transformation and opportunity to work extensively on stakeholders management skills with business partners and our operations teams to ensure top quartile performance.
Accountabilities:
Process Data and Systems
Ensure seamless ERA processes and design of efficient and effective processes for settlements and accounting
Continue to support implementation of new business transactions / requirements whilst maintaining a robust financial control framework.
Ensure alignment and collaboration with other process excellence organizations (in T&S and FO) and Continuous Improvement teams.
Actively support knowledge sharing within the teams that aids standardization/ streamlining of processes
Stakeholders
Develop and foster connections with relevant business partners and other stakeholders (including other processes) to ensure any issues in the end-to-end process are identified during automation and solutions are implemented quickly.
Support and assist collaboration and ways of working between operations teams and business partners as required.

Skill and Requirements
Qualified Accountant (Chartered Accountant/ACCA/CIMA/CPA) or MBA Finance from Tier-1 / premier business schools
Financial Risk Management (FRM, GARP) / Energy Risk Professional (ERP, GARP) / Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®)
5 – 10 years of professional experience on the following areas
Process and Transformation:
Good understanding of Trading Business in general, Energy Trading in particular and their LoaD (mandatory).
Good understanding of Commodity Trading and Derivatives / Financial / Paper trading transactions to assist the front-end teams in seamless integration of back office processes (mandatory)
Deep understanding of ERA processes outlined above (mandatory).
Understanding of ETRM (i.e. either ENDUR / Aligne) and ERP (i.e. SAP P80 or other SAP FI modules) functionalities (mandatory)
Understanding of LNG business value chain (preferred)
Understanding of derivative instruments and hedging structures (preferred)
Experience in designing and implementing preventive controls (business/financial and IT) with the particular focus on bringing them to the front end of the process where they are better placed.
Understanding of wider FO process including R&A, Tax and FO Data and be a natural integrator to design/deliver e2e FO process.
Good understanding of PDS (Process Data Systems) landscape in the Energy Trading world and significance in ETRM implementation programs along with Data Platforms to transform the process that is futuristic.
Good understanding of best practices in the industry/external mindset and ability to bring in market-based tools wherever required to make the process touch less.
Experience in transformational process improvement initiatives with proven abilities to propose standardization across different programs and streamlining opportunities along with methods to integrate and implement new ways of working leveraging tools/ technologies to enhance value while ensuring solutions developed remain cost effective.
Ability to suggest simplified business models and integration of acquired companies to deliver simplified and standardized PDS.
Stakeholder management and Leadership:
Excellent stakeholder engagement, Program management and change management skills, including ability to drive and influence ERA change agenda.
Strong leadership skills with an ability to influence stakeholders, excellent communications skills - written and oral.
Business Partnering skills. The role involves extensive interactions with various stakeholders and therefore requires a combination of intellect, maturity, strength of character, and an ability to earn respect.
Proven organizational and prioritization skills. Manage ambiguity and build strong relationships at global and local levels.
This role is an individual contributor role but involves working with different program leads / peers and delivering through other Process Experts.
