The Shell Scotford Refinery Production team is seeking a Plant Manager for our Refinery Asset. The Shell Scotford Complex consists of a bitumen upgrader, oil refinery, chemicals plant and the Quest Carbon Capture and Storage facility. It is one of North America’s most efficient, modern, and integrated hydrocarbon processing sites.

The Plant Manager, Refinery plays a critical role at the Scotford facility through leading a large team or union/nonunion employees while also being accountable as the asset owner of the Refinery Unit including all aspects of operations. This is a key leadership position within the Scotford production organization, overseeing the HSSE, reliability, operability, and profitability aspects of the Refinery asset.?

As the Plant Manager for Refinery, you will partner with a variety of Chemicals stakeholders in Calgary and Houston to deliver the Refinery production and business goals. You will also build sustainable improvements in HSSE, Reliability, Cost, Margin, Energy, Quality and implementing and executing standard work processes to deliver performance results.

Accountabilities:

  • Set a sustainable strategy and tactics to deliver the Refinery’s business plan targets

  • Lead and oversee over 150 production staff including a unionized hourly workforce

  • Set direction and expectations for performance within Refinery production unit, and remove barriers to performance

  • Accountable for direct and indirect control of the fixed, variable cost, and sustaining capital budgets for the Refinery

  • Accountable for the core delivery (90 day plan) against the business plan for the Refinery Asset

  • Lead the day and shift staff effectively, working within a complex and dynamic operation, making decisions that effectively balance HSSE, people, asset, reliability and competitive benchmarks

  • Lead the multidiscipline Asset Leadership Team, empower, coach and provide feedback

  • Ensure that staff resourcing, competency and development training needs are met while also balancing business needs

  • Develop and support area multi-year unit strategies including identification and resolution of threats, capital plans, and turnaround strategies

  • Track Production Unit key performance metrics proactively in the HSSE, production, reliability and cost areas and establishes an ongoing target/track/review/improve process

  • Ensure fit-for-purpose assurance of the key applicable work processes while ensuring safe production through effective alarm management strategies

  • Act as an active member of Emergency Command Team (EOC) for site emergency crisis management

  • Demonstrate strong understanding and support for corporate policies on HSSE, HR, Finance, Collective Bargaining Agreement, and business principles

  • Develop strong relationship with Joint Venture partners and provide regular updates

  • Participates actively in best practice sharing & implementation with peers both on site and at other Shell Energy & Chemicals Parks

  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset in cost performance and ensure cost competitiveness

  • Review, Challenge, Approve all MOC and Project work within the Asset Leadership Team, focusing on <90 days managing within operating and capital cost constraints

  • Manage and collaborate on the capital budget for the Refinery/Chemicals with Project teams and Turnaround Manager

Requirements:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Minimum 10+ years of Operations experience including maintenance execution in a manufacturing facility (refining, petrochemical, LNG)

  • Experience in leadership or managerial position leading a team or community with influence on multi-disciplinary teams

  • Ability to maximize business opportunities and profitability

  • Knowledge of Alarm Management Principles, Maintenance Execution, Reliability and Asset Integrity

  • Knowledge of Lean/Continuous Improvement, Agile, Scrum and 4DX methodologies is desired

  • Experience in working with unionized workforce is an asset

  • Awareness of the cultural and operational environment of the business
