GRID has a dedicated staff of 380 and growing! This position will be in our Northern California office which covers three counties.

Why is this a big deal...

GRID Alternatives is seeking an Outreach and Workforce Development Coordinator for our North Coast office in Willits! This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the solar industry. Responsible for all aspects of the client application process including outreach, screening, home site visits, educating families about solar, energy efficiency, and the details of our program, walking clients through the application process, and assisting them with all related documentation.

The Opportunity...

This position will work with partners in native communities to find and determine eligible solar, EV charging stations, and energy storage clients. This will include:

  • Working between tribes and government agencies to facilitate understanding of funding programs for tribal nations and low-income communities
  • Guiding the application process along from start to finish, including phone screening, group presentations, home site visits, educating families about solar and energy efficiency, walking clients through the application process, and assisting them with all related paperwork
  • Workforce development training, which includes training GRID’s paid interns and Solar Corp fellows via a google Classroom distance learning platform for installation basics training
  • Build and manage partnerships with local job training organizations, workforce development partners, the general public, and solar installers to help connect trainees with job opportunities

What you need to bring to this role...

  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive
  • Experience working with Tribal Nations and Native American Communities
  • Knowledge and/or experience in energy efficiency and solar energy
  • A passion for GRID Alternatives’ mission particularly with respect to the communities we serve (low-income families, job trainees, and volunteers), affordable housing, and/or environment/environmental justice work
  • Experience with nonprofits and/or advocacy groups
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Available for occasional weekend and evening work
  • MUST be able to successfully register and maintain a Home Improvement Salesperson registration with the Contractors State License Board

It would be great if you also had...

  • Professional working proficiency in Spanish; proficiency in other languages is also preferred but not required
  • Outreach experience, particularly in the communities mentioned above (similar or equivalent experience will be considered)
  • Knowledge of/history working in the North Coast area
  • Experience or knowledge of the basics of electric vehicles, charging, e-mobility, solar energy, energy efficiency, or background in renewable energy
  • Clean mobility experience or knowledge of transportation equity programs
  • Experience working with Salesforce

Where you will sit & the places you may go...

You’ll be working with our satellite office in Willits, CA as part of the Bay Area main office, to help advertise, recruit, coordinate, and support training for hands-on solar installations, and participant orientation. The Outreach Coordinator will need to be on-site, as COVID-19 safety allows. Due to COVID-19, this position will largely be remote/work-from-home to start and includes a $50/month internet stipend while remote. GRID Alternatives may not provide vehicles for work travel but will provide travel reimbursement for work-related personal vehicle use, and the applicant must hold a valid driver’s license and good driving record. We cover three counties and there is a fair amount of travel.
