What’s the Role?
The Shell Tehachapi California grease plant is looking for a new team member who is interested in starting a career at Shell which is a global industry leader in lubricants production. As we are looking to expand and increase our productions, this team member will be working at the newly acquired Shell Grease Manufacturing Plant (GMP) in Tehachapi California. The Shell Tehachapi GMP is the only Shell proprietary GMP in the US. We are hiring entry level positions with no previous experience needed and all on-the-job training will be provided. Career growth opportunities are also available, and there will be an opportunity to grow into higher level roles if desired.
The Jr. Chemical Operator will be expected to learn and champion ISO 9001, Manufacturing Work Instructions, and all standard operating procedures. Responsibilities will include packaging of chemicals and transferring to appropriate staging areas to meet customer demand daily. The Jr Chemical Operator will report to the Area Supervisor and takes daily direction from the Shift Lead.
Accountabilities:
- Learn and comply with all applicable internal and external health, safety, security, and environmental policies
- Participate and communicate effectively with team members
- Perform job set-up by preparing equipment and filling containers
- Transport containers
- Accurately complete production records for product tracking procedures.
- Coordinate with Quality for product testing
- Regularly move and lift 55 pounds
- Take initiative and demonstrates strong problem-solving ability
- Work independently with support from the Shift Lead or Area Supervisor
- Actively engage in and support departmental and company improvement opportunities
What we need from you:
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Manufacturing experience is a plus but not required
- Must submit to all background, medical and reference checks, including hair drug testing
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers
- Ability to support and abide by the Company's safety policies
- Amenable to work outside in inclement weather with or without reasonable accommodation
- Willingness to climb ladders, walk up and down steps, and work at heights with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to work in compact spaces with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to complete tasks independently with support as needed from the Shift Lead or Area Supervisor
- Ability to lift 55 lbs. regularly
- Willingness to work overtime, if needed
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions
The working schedule of this role is Monday to Friday shift from 2:30pm to 10:30pm and occasional overtime from 2:00pm to 2:00am.
The starting rate for this position is $19.00 per hour with an anticipated increase to this rate as of Feb 1. This team member will also be eligible for scheduled base wage increases at 12, 24 and 36 months of service. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
