Job Description:

Where you fit in

The Materials and Corrosion Engineer provides technical support in Pressure Equipment Materials & Corrosion issues (e.g., RBI, CDDS, IOWS, MOCs and failure analysis) to work effectively in a team environment with other discipline Engineers, along with multiple other site support staff in Process Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Turnaround and Major Projects.

What’s the role?

Your accountabilities as Materials and Corrosion Engineer include:

  • Providing proactive technical support on issues related to corrosion mechanisms, corrosion control, inspection techniques/effectiveness and metallurgy for MOC’s, Safety Case studies, plant changes, and new projects.
  • Provide material selection and technical support to assist process engineers, operations specialists, and Pressure Equipment Inspectors in day-to-day activities related to metallurgy, welding, and corrosion control.
  • Support RBI Engineer to ensure delivery of the site Shell Risk Based Inspection (S-RBI) re-assessment plan.
  • Deliver own assign production unit S-RBI reassessment s, in addition to “on the run” and end of Turnaround event upkeep of RBI for individual Pressure Equipment.
  • Work with Inspection Engineers to develop and integrate recommendations into piping and equipment inspection strategies and active schedules in computerized scheduling tool.
  • Monitoring of identified IOWs (Integrity Operating Windows) within the process units that may affect degradation of Pressure Equipment, make recommendations based on deviations from IOW limits and update any IOWs using the site MOC process including Ensure Safe Production (ESP) work process (if applicable).
  • Provide technical input to chemical inhibitor programs, boiler feed water, and cooling water treatment programs, and other chemical treatment programs.
  • Develop and deliver monthly CIT (Corrosion Integrity Team) meetings, support root cause analysis, coordinate failure analysis activities, and recommend mitigation methods for corrosion and materials issues, including inspection techniques, repair strategies and replacement decisions.
  • Network with other Corrosion & Materials Engineers in Shell or professional organizations to learn from, share location experiences, assist in review and improvement of company standards and SJI Asset Integrity procedures.
  • Support integrated solutions across entire SJI organisation and help others in the organisation understand their role in maintaining equipment integrity as related to corrosion control and proper design and maintenance of pressure equipment.

What we need from you

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science.
  • Has experience in facilitating formal training and delivery of Causal Leaning Investigation
  • Has excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
