Job Description:

Position Purpose

The Shell Polymers Monaca facility will be a world-scale petrochemical plant in Western Pennsylvania that upgrades locally produced ethane from Marcellus and Utica shale formations gas production to make polyethylene.  The petrochemical complex consists of a world-scale Ethane Cracker Unit, multiple polyethylene units, PE logistics and supporting utilities, general facilities, storage, and hydrocarbon logistics.

The Site is in the Pittsburgh, PA area (Monaca, PA).  Not only have we built a world-class asset, we’re building a world-class asset organization.  This position is critical to the mission of team, and this will promise to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. 

As a Maintenance Machinist your responsibilities shall include, repair, and maintain rotating process equipment. This includes disassembling/assembling equipment, machining, and fabrication of parts, troubleshooting, and overall maintenance of equipment. Repairs and troubleshooting may be done on equipment such as pumps, compressors, fans, blowers, conveyors, gearboxes, and turbines. Fabrication and machining would be accomplished by using such machines as lathes, surface grinders, vertical and horizontal mills.

Accountabilities:

  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments such as micrometers or vernier calipers

  • Proficient in all Machine Shop activities

  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications

  • Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations

  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process

  • Knowledge of drill press’s, torquing equipment and measuring tools

  • Move machinery and equipment, using overhead crane, hoists, dollies, rollers, and fork-lifts

  • Examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear

  • Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery

  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products

  • Record work history and submit feedback for continuous improvement of Maintenance Shop such as, lift plans, policies, and procedures

  • Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts

  • Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations

  • Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders

  • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition

  • Assemble/reassembly equipment, using hand tools and power tools

  • Replace defective parts of equipment or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts

  • Perform basic crane lifts as operator /signalman/rigger with competent rigging and lifting knowledge and skill

  • Understanding of proper application of hydro-testing

  • Operating motorized lifting equipment

  • Be able to be cross-trained and develop proficiency in maintenance tasks in the shop

Work Schedule: 9/80 base work schedule with varied schedules depending on worksite demand. Certain plant conditions will require night shift, weekends, and holidays (turnarounds, outages, major plant activities, production support, etc) 

Skills & Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the USA on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of manual machining experience and limited knowledge/skill as a rotating equipment technician

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 

  • Completion of an Industry Accredited Training or Apprenticeship program, Military Maintenance School, or equivalent petrochemical work experience

  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent 

  • Willing to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodation 

  • Willing to work in compact and confined spaces with or without accommodation 

  • Willing to climb ladders, walk up and down steps, and work at heights with or without accommodation 

  • Must be willing to work in an environment that requires the daily use of computers (i.e., iOS, MS Suite, SAP) 

  • Must be willing to be trained and maintain certification to operate motorized lifting equipment such as man-lifts, cranes, trucks, forklifts, etc. to support craft activities

  • Must be willing to respond to emergencies, successful candidates must reside within 60 minutes of the site, or be willing to relocate to within 60 minutes of the site without relocation assistance 

  • Willing to be on call and meet call-¬out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies 

  • As a part of the pre-¬employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre-employment background, medical, and reference checks, including hair & fluid (saliva or urine) drug testing  

  • Willing to support the company's drug¬ free work environment, which will include random drug/alcohol screenings 

  • Willing to take and achieve satisfactory results on Shell’s pre-employment testing battery 

  • With proper training, willing and able to lift 40 lbs with or without accommodation, and able to use safe lifting techniques with the use of heavy equipment

The hourly salary range for this position is $42 - $50 per hour max.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay.
