You will provide shore based marine utility systems and Storage and Loading technical support to Shell Australia offshore operating assets and to the projects and non-operated ventures.

What’s the role?

The primary function of the Lead S&L and Marine Utilities Engineer is to serve as the Engineering Technical Assurance single-point-of-contact for marine utility equipment design, operation and maintenance within their assigned production areas on Prelude as well as continued operational support to offshore S&L teams in Engineering matters related to LNG, LPG loading, offtakes and ballast operations.

Based on proven expertise & experience gained from operation, maintenance, design and construction of new-build and converted FPSO’s / FSO’s / FLNG’s, you will be supporting operability, integrity and reliability business targets, particularly in support of Prelude FLNG and on occasion, new projects/developments and non-operated Venture (NOV) projects.

The Lead S&L and Marine Utilities Engineer will function as one of the Technical Authority certified engineers (in possession of or in progress) for the Civil, Structures and Offshore (CSO) Team.

  • Experience operating in FLNG / FPSO safety case regime is preferred.

  • Marine Systems Management: Oversee Ballast, Nitrogen Inerting, Potable Water, Bilge, OWS, Sewage treatment, Inert gas, and Cryogenic containment (GTT Mk3).

  • Pumping Systems: Expertise in Condensate, LNG, LPG, and Bunkering systems.

  • Handle Continuous Survey of Machinery (CSM) and ensure compliance with the Prelude Safety Case.

  • Technical Leadership: Lead sparing strategies, repair crew evaluations, and interface between onshore and offshore teams.

  • Shutdowns and Overhauls: Lead teams during shutdowns, turnarounds, and start-ups; audit overhaul progress.

  • Contract and Project Management: Manage third-party contracts, support marine equipment projects, and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Safety and Reliability: Promote a “goal zero” safety mindset, develop reliability strategies, and serve as Technical Authority certified reviewer.

What we need from you

To succeed in this role, you must possess excellent communications skills combined with a broad understanding of Marine / Maritime discipline engineering in an FLNG and FPSO operating environment and be capable of continuously improving existing processes, systems and structures for an organisation that continues to mature into the operational phase of Preludes life and potentially for future offshore and coastal assets within Shell Australia.

The role will be based in Perth however may be required to travel offshore, nationally and internationally periodically. Furthermore you will have:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical, Marine or Naval Engineering; Extensive hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry.

  • Hold and maintain a valid Class 1 Motor - Chief Marine Engineer Certificate and experience in CSM execution as per IACS.

  • Experience working in FLNG / FSRUs / FPSOs space and well versed with floating asset operations. Prelude type experience preferrable.

  • Skilled in FSR, MTO, MOC, and project management processes, including technical assessment and risk evaluations.

  • Experience with large marine diesel engines, submersible cryogenic pumps, rotating equipment, and offshore operations.

  • Knowledgeable in hull and tank integrity, marine systems, offloading, storage, loading, UWILD, and moorings.

  • Familiar with HSE standards, regulatory regimes, classification schemes, and quality assurance processes.

  • Proficient in stakeholder interaction, including NOPSEMA, classification societies, and global organizations.

  • Capable of leading teams, communicating project objectives, and managing project completions and handovers.
