Job Description:

We are recruiting for a I&C Bid Manager who will be responsible for supporting the growth of Shell Energy’s business within the B2B energy market by coordinating and producing bid responses for I&C new and renewal energy tenders.

The I&C Bid Manager role supports our business’ aim to be a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, partnering with customers on their journey towards carbon neutrality and serving 5-10% of the UK business energy market by 2030. 

The I&C Bid Manager is a member of the Commercial Sales Team and reports to the Commodity Sales Director. The role is responsible for managing, coordinating, and producing responses for all bids for I&C customers in the UK energy market.

The role will require the I&C Bid Manager to ensure bid responses are produced to a high standard on time, producing and writing of bids as well as creating a 70% go-to market bid library, with support from all parts of the business that would need to contribute.   

What’s the role?

The role will be critical to supporting the commercial sales team to succeed in spearheading its ambitious growth targets in the I&C Energy Market and will enable the team to focus on a customers and external engagement.  As well as managing bid responses there is also a key requirement to build a longer-term bid response capability that allows SEUK to be as prepared and efficient as possible with regards to bid response activity. 

You will be required to deliver as follows;

  • Develop, lead and produce bid winning strategies
  • Writing and editing proposals and collaborate with team members to ensure bid security
  • Take full ownership of co-ordinating the planning process across all tender bids to ensure there is an ongoing visible plan to deliver high quality bid responses by the required deadline
  • Take a project management approach to managing each step of the bid response process, engaging all relevant stakeholders and areas of the business to ensure maximum success in delivering bid winning proposals
  • Lead regular internal tender pipeline sessions from sales and commercial perspective to drive business engagement and ensure there is an integrated approach to SEUK’s bid response process
  • Work closely with sales BDM’s, product managers, commercial teams, legal and compliance to ensure bid responses are internally joint up and produced to the highest level of quality
  • Producing bid presentations for face2face bid response stages to be presented by members of the bid response team
  • Communicating with external partners and customers where required to support the progress of the bid response production
  • Attending meetings in support of the Sales BDM to build engagement with larger customers and/or energy Brokers to support and hone bid response success
  • Conduct research to ensure that SEUK are ahead of market bid response strategies in the UK energy market
  • Work closely with other Shell teams to incorporate wider products in the SEUK bid response
  • Collaborate with other business units to be part of wider bid responses where the customer is pan-European or global
  • Planning and improving the bid response capabilities, libraries and strategies in the business to build the future success of SEUK’s I&C bid response activity
  • Compiling regular reports for the ‘in-bid’ deal pipeline stage for team review and senior management MI using KPI’s to clearly show progress
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships internally and externally, working closely with colleagues ensuring bid responses are produced to a high standard
  • Adopt a ‘no surprises’ approach to reporting and communication with Senior Managers.

What we need from you

We are keen to hear from individuals with experience of high spec bid management and bid writing in the UK I&C energy space covering flexible commodity products and complex solutions, including the typical types of systems that support these products.  You’ll also have strong excel skills and report management capabilities.  You’ll also call on your Degree in Management or English (or equivalent).

We also hope you possess the following skills and/or experience:

  • Excellent communicator at C-level, both written and verbal
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships, both internally and externally, including ability to interact with brokers, partners, customers and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to managing complex competing priorities, projects and sales related processes
