As we transition to cleaner forms of energy, the challenge facing the energy industry in the coming decades is considerable. Environmental specialists are vital in managing risks, preventing harm and achieving our environmental ambition of safeguarding and valuing nature by being a part of the solution to global challenges across the lifecycle of our products.

You are going to be a key part of our Shell Australia Environment Team, a team of professionals who are passionate about helping Shell safely deliver cleaner energy solutions and being best in class through complying with our regulatory requirements whilst improving Shell’s strong social license to operate.

As Environmental Advisor Biosecurity and Ecology, you will provide specialist advice, specialist assurance of vegetation management contracts and manage multiple internal and external stakeholder interfaces. You will be the technical focal point for biosecurity and land management at Shell QGC,  as well as supporting the Shell QGC Environmental Advisor for Soils in aspects of reinstatement and rehabilitation.

You must have a deep commitment to our values, code of conduct, Goal Zero and visibly demonstrate a simplification and delivery mindset, balancing immediate activities with longer-term direction setting. • Supporting delivery and monitoring framework for adaptive land management measures to balance operational requirements (e.g. AS2885, asset integrity & safe access) and compliance with protected plant, reinstatement and rehabilitation regulatory and permit obligations.  This will involve a key business partnering and collaboration role with Asset Managers and Central Business Services contract holders.

  • Provide administrative and technical support to the Environment Advisor Soils  covering general aspects of soil chemistry, erosion and sediment control (ESC) for rehabilitation works and or landholder grievances.

What we need from you

When it comes to nurturing collaborative stakeholder relations, your interpersonal and influencing people skills will make a difference. You will inspire people to make changes that will have a direct impact on our success.  Furthermore, you will have:

  • A degree(s) or equivalent in an environmental or other relevant science or technical discipline, or environmental management.

  • Relevant experience in a role dealing with biosecurity and field ecology or land/natural resource management within the Brigalow Belt region.

  • Relevant experience dealing with landholders/regulators and implementing environmental management plans, permits and approvals for the oil and gas industry or broader resource sector (preferable).

  • Relevant field experience in a role dealing with ESC and rehabilitating construction sites, specifically with dispersive soils (highly regarded).

  • Experience in contract/contractor management, particularly safe systems of work, budgeting, forecasting and scheduling work.

  • Working knowledge of current Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation and policies regarding biosecurity, vegetation, fauna management with emphasis on General Biosecurity Obligation, MNES and MSES species, habitats, environmental constraints mapping.
