Where you fit in

As we transition to cleaner forms of energy, the challenge facing the energy industry in the coming decades is considerable.

Shell’s QGC Wells includes drilling rigs, workover rigs, civil road and lease pad construction, civil reinstatement/rehabilitation, road maintenance and general civil maintenance works. You’re going to be a key part of our QGC East HSSE team, a team of professionals who are passionate about helping Shell safely and sustainably deliver more and cleaner energy solutions.

As the key environment team member, you are expected to represent the HSSE discipline to the highest standards whilst partnering with the business, identifying issues and delivering timely and fit-for-purpose solutions, that comply with risk-based Regulations. You will role model a deep commitment to our values, code of conduct, safety and visibly demonstrate a simplification and delivery mindset, balancing immediate activities with longer-term direction setting.

You are expected to role model inclusive behaviours where different views and perspectives are encouraged and valued – set clear direction/expectations, motivate, build trust, intervene respectfully, enhance discipline credibility and balance life with work.

What’s the role?

As the Environment Advisor, you will be integrating environment performance into Wells work-scopes via strong stakeholder relationships and intimate understanding of environmental management systems. You’ll thrive on providing challenge, fit-for-purpose solutions, insights and lessons, simplifying ways of working, and directly supporting Wells goals and Shell QGC’s goals. More specifically, your role will include:

  • Implement environment mitigations and HSSE improvement plan initiatives via the ISO14001 approved management system including completing associated CAWKI (regulatory condition compliance) and field assurance components.

  • Provide technical environmental advice and monitoring as the environmental focal point for the Wells business unit including the coordination of environmental field audits, incident response, management of environmental and regulatory issues and implementing appropriate business aligned solutions.

  • Drive engagement and promote environment culture to a wide range of internal stakeholders, facilitating learning within QGC and working collaboratively with your Shell Australia colleagues to share best practices and address common issues.

  • The role is delivered on a roster basis comprising 14 days on, 14 days off, 12-hour day shift. Company transport is supplied from Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. The successful candidate is expected to make use of company transport to mobilise to the Surat Basin (Chinchilla). Mobilisation and demobilisation are on rostered days on, respectively,

What we need from you

When it comes to nurturing collaborative stakeholder relations, your interpersonal and influencing people skills will make a difference. You will inspire people to make changes that will have a direct impact on our success. Furthermore, you will have:

  • Deep commitment to Goal Zero and personal accountability.

  • A Degree(s) or equivalent in a relevant science or environmental science discipline, or environmental management, or environmental engineering.

  • Professional experience in site environmental management.

  • Proven experience working with civil disturbance, drilling rigs, field teams and positively impacting HSSE culture.

  • A strong background in erosion and sediment control / land stabilisation.

  • Proven operational experience and knowledge of industry safety and environment risks.

  • General knowledge of Queensland environment legislation and standards. Working knowledge in the application of HSE legislation, tools and techniques.

  • Exposure to working with external stakeholders and familiarity with relationship & liaison skills. Interpersonal and presentation skills and a willingness to proactively connect stakeholders across the business.

  • The courage to share views, insights, uncomfortable truths whilst accepting and supporting decisions made.

  • Relentless drive for simplification and improvement.

This role is based in the Surat (e.g. Chinchilla, Dalby, Miles or Wandoan).
