The LATAM crude trader day typically starts with catching up on trading related news, market prices and a review of publications before attending a crude oil global market review meeting. This provides an overview of the trading networks exposure, market views and current trading activities.
LATAM Crude traders spend considerable time interfacing with Producers and other 3rd parties (buyers, sellers, intermediaries, other majors, governments, etc.). This includes time on the telephone gathering market information, keeping abreast of trades that occur and executing trades. It also involves regular meetings with third parties to discuss the crude oil markets, business opportunities and market views. Regular business travel to meet international customers will be an important part of the job.

It is primarily about maximizing the team’s profitability by taking considered risks in the physical, freight and derivative markets and by being able to respond rapidly to any changes in the dynamic of these markets.
You will be responsible for negotiating and executing profitable trades.
For this role in particular, the main tasks involved will be the following:

- Management of all physical exposures generated from physical barrels, including mark-to-market and hedging
- Management of embedded optionality generated from physical contracts, including clean and dirty pricing options.
- Working in close partnership with Shell Upstream to manage to ensure perfect alignment and robustness for load logistics
- Collaborating with L2A and global Shell Trading teams to develop market views and strategies, and to take positions basis those views

It is imperative that the candidate have a minimum of 3-5 years of oil trading experience, and a strong understanding of physical and paper exposures (DFLs, spreads, outright) generated from physical.
Brazil loading operations are complex with multiple STS’s each month. Therefore the candidate is expected to work closely with Operations Team to manage all cargo liftings and the exposures that arise from changes/delays in the program.
Working under tight deadlines, conflicting pressures and often long hours, the candidate will prove able to continue delivering to an excellent standard with clear focus on the bottom line and priorities in hand.
The job is at the sharp edge of the Group's efforts to deliver highest value proposition to its customers It also sits at the sharp hedge of the trading book strategy to position itself amongst the biggest crude LATAM players.
