Why this is a big deal...
The Electrician will be a part of the GRID Alternatives’ Inland Empire regional construction team, serving electrical needs in Riverside, San Bernardino and Inyo counties. They will generally be the regional go-to resource for guidance and questions regarding the installation of residential electrical service equipment and electrical vehicle service equipment. Additionally, you will work to train, lead and grow our construction team and workforce on projects throughout the Inland Empire.
The Opportunity…
GRID Alternatives provides no-cost solar systems to individuals and families who will benefit from reduced energy bills while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. Roughly one out of every three households that qualify for our Energy for All program have electrical issues that need to be addressed. As an in-house electrician with GRID, you will help solve those electrical issues so that more eligible homeowners access energy savings and help make our air cleaner. Additionally, you will work to install EV chargers for participants of GRID Alternatives’ Clean Mobility program. Our Clean Mobility program brings together solar, charging infrastructure, and electric vehicles to enable this transition for communities that could benefit the most, while also providing local job seekers with workforce development opportunities in the new clean mobility economy. GRID has a variety of active clean mobility equity projects now underway throughout the Inland Empire.
- Safely complete installation of residential service upgrades, conduit and interties, solar storage, and electric vehicle service equipment
- Ensure that the work is performed in a professional and competent manner to conform to existing NEC and local building codes
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system components to resolve electrical issues
- Perform site visits, analyze points of interconnection, specify equipment/materials, support bid proposals as needed
- Assist in electrical design, tie-ins, permitting process and inspections
- Supervise SolarCorps Construction Fellow/Electrician Trainee
- Perform quality assurance reviews of in-house and subcontractor work as needed
What you need to bring to this role…?
- California-certified residential or general electrician
- 3+ years experience in electrical installation and repair
- Working knowledge of current NEC codes
- Must have working knowledge and experience replacing residential electrical services and distribution panels
- Ability to read and interpret single line drawings
- Must maintain a clean and valid driver's license
- Must be able to pass a drug test and background check
- Ability to work safely in a branch/warehouse/field rooftop environment
- Ability to operate office equipment including computers and determine accuracy of work
- Must be able to carry/lift up to 50 lbs and ascend/descend ladders to install solar panels
- Must be able to transport materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks (up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance)
- Must be able to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces which requires frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and balance
- Must be comfortable working from ladders and at heights
- Excellent and professional communication skills including giving and receiving feedback
- Excellent leadership skills, ability to build a positive work environment within a team and in a dynamic and culturally diverse environment
- Self starter – extremely motivated, ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
- Flexibility and willingness to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to a high-growth organization
- Hired candidate must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.
It would be great if you also had…
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification or ability to obtain within 6 mos
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, SalesForce, and Helioscope
- Passion for environmental justice and working with low-income communities, sustainability, affordable housing, and the environment
Where you will sit & the places you may go…
This position may require up to 25% of travel throughout the Inland Empire and regional travel and out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may be required.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, GRID Alternatives may not provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use, but applicant must hold a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
