Job Description:

Background:

The Shell Polymers Monaca (SPM) facility is a world-scale petrochemical plant in Western Pennsylvania that upgrades ethane to make polyethylene.  The petrochemical complex consists of a world-scale Ethane Cracker Unit (ECU), multiple polyethylene (PE) units, PE logistics and supporting OSBL (utilities, general facilities, storage, and hydrocarbon logistics).

This position is responsible for helping the organization achieve maintenance excellence/reliability improvements by the execution of maintenance activities. This position plays an important role in the maintenance organization structure.

What will I be responsible for as an Analyzer Technician?

  • Troubleshooting DCS control Analyzer interfaces; repairing, calibrating, tuning, and aligning Analyzers.

  • Read and understand piping/instrument and electrical drawings of instrumentation, control, power, and metering circuitry.

  • Apply Electrical Safety Rules in accordance with site and OSHA standards.

  • Record work history and submit feedback for continuous improvement of Maintenance plans, policies, and procedures.

  • Troubleshoot and Perform Preventive and Reactive Maintenance of Analyzer systems and components including (but not limited to): Gas Chromatograph (GC), Continuous Emission Monitors (CEM), Tunable Diode Laser (TDL), Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Volatile Organic Carbon (VOC), Density, Hydrocarbons, pH + ORP, Dissolved Oxygen (DO2), Oxygen (O2), Instrument Air, Pellet, TOC, Sodium, Silica, Turbidity, Chlorine, Moisture, and conductivity.

  • Perform bending and tubing/piping connections and understand proper application of pressure rated piping/tubing fittings.

  • Recommends preventative maintenance schedule updates.

  • Write SAP notifications.

  • Routine Predictive maintenance surveillance utilizing AMADAS (Analyzer Maintenance and Data Acquisition System) and unit rounds.

  • Maintain environmental records.

  • Participate in environmental audits as required.

  • Participate in analyzer maintenance team meetings.

  • Foster teamwork and collaborative work environment.

  • Supply manpower for new and improvement analyzer projects.

  • Train on new analyzers.

  • Supply expertise on projects.

  • Contractor assistance as required.

  • Participates in equipment inspections and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

  • Partners with Operations teams to resolve analyzer issues.

  • Supports area Analyzer discipline engineers and inspectors.

  • Participates in Notice of Completion (NOC) walkdowns.

  • Participates in Start-Up activities.

  • Assist and participate in pre-commissioning activities (e.g. witness, inspect, verify, confirm installation checks, equipment performance tests, etc.)

  • Development, revising and drafting of preventive maintenance procedures.

  • Assist Instrument/ Electrical Technicians with duties as assigned.

What knowledge, skills and attributes are needed for this role?

  • Must have completed one of the following: An Industry Accredited Training, or an Apprenticeship program, or an associate degree in Instrumentation/Control, Electrical/ Electronic Engineering / Technology (or equivalent) or relevant military experience.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an Analyzer Technician or equivalent Instrumentation experience.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future without requiring sponsorship.

  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.

  • Must Comply with Company background, medical and reference checks, including hair & fluid (saliva or urine) drug screening.

  • Must Comply with Company drug-free work environment and Fitness for Duty requirements, including random drug and alcohol testing.

  • Must Comply with Company safety policies and procedures.

  • Must Comply to harassment-free work environment and with the company's diversity and inclusion work practices, along with working with embedded contract employees as required.

  • Must be willing to take and achieve satisfactory results on Shell’s pre-employment testing battery.

  • Ability to read and interpret piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs)

  • Knowledge of piping, bolting, gasketing, and basic rigging practices.

  • Familiarity with safety practices and techniques relating to the chemical industry (e.g., LOTO, Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, Arc Flash awareness).

  • Must be willing to work in elevated and confined spaces.

  • Must be willing to work outside in inclement weather.

  • Must be willing to accept call-out duty and meet call-out standards and willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime supporting maintenance demands.

  • Preferred Computer Skills: iOS, MS Suite, SAP.

  • Must be willing to be trained and maintain certification to operate motorized lifting equipment such as man-lifts, cranes, trucks, forklifts, etc. to support craft activities.

  • Knowledge of electronics.

  • Knowledge of chemistry and physics as applies to analyzers.

What physical tasks does this role require?

  • Accessing Analyzer equipment at both ground level and at elevated locations by climbing vertical ladders.  This could range from small portable stepladders to multiple series of caged ladders.

  • Use of hand and power tools such as pulling and pushing on wrenches to install and remove nuts, bolts, thermowells, conduit, orifice plates, etc.

  • Ability to lift and/or carry tools, valves, conduit, small motors etc.  Weights are normally less than 25 pounds.

  • Must be willing and able to lift (up to) 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled area, such as column platforms, pipe racks, Operating Units, etc.

  • Ability to independently perform tasks as required.

  • Ability to don a respirator for safe work.
